Hormones! The natural fluctuations of hormones, both monthly and through the different phases of life, can increase ADHD symptoms. However, when you understand what is happening and why, you feel empowered and in a stronger position to seek the best treatment for your ADHD. ADHD, Estrogen, and the Brain Estrogen is one of the main hormones  that is responsible for regulating the female reproductive system. Estrogen also plays a role in cognitive functions as it is involved in the modulation of the neurotransmitters serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. These neurotransmitters help with focus, concentration, mood, and memory.  Estrogen levels vary considerably in the last two weeks of the menstrual cycle and, during perimenopause and menopause. When estrogen levels are low, you may experience increased feelings of irritability, moodiness, and depression, problems with sleep, anxiety, difficulty concentrating, fuzzy thinking, forgetfulness and memory problems, fatigue and loss of energy, as well as hot flashes. Women with ADHD tend to be particularly sensitive to lower estrogen levels. ADHD itself is associated with a dysfunction  in the neurotransmitter systems in the brain. Hormones and ADHD Stimulants The stimulant medication used to treat ADHD increases the release of certain neurotransmitters, most notably dopamine and norepinephrine. They also block or slow down their speed of reabsorption. This means that the neurotransmitters stay in the neural synapse longer, allowing messages in the brain to be more effectively transmitted and received; and as  a result, your ADHD symptoms are reduced. Studies have found that estrogen may aid in the effectiveness of stimulants. Conversely, lower levels of estrogen are often associated with less effectiveness from or less response to stimulant medications. To complicate things further, the hormone progesterone may  make stimulants less potent.  Let’s look at how estrogen levels change throughout your life. Puberty The onset of puberty is also associated with changes in hormonal levels and so early adolescent  girls with ADHD may experience increased difficulties in managing ADHD symptoms. It is not unusual for girls to also experience intense mood swings, irritability and become more over-reactive emotionally during the pubescent years. Also, in their early teenage years, girls may start noticing that their ADHD medication is not as effective in helping them to manage their ADHD symptoms. This may be  because, during puberty, both estrogen and progesterone levels increase. While estrogen seems to aid in the effectiveness of stimulants, progesterone likely decreases it. PMS During the monthly menstrual cycle, there are fluctuations in both estrogen and progesterone levels, and there tend to be varying response rates to the stimulant medications. It is helpful to track your symptoms by keeping a log or simple journal, noting when symptoms seem to escalate during your cycle. This way you and your doctor will have a clearer picture of the specific patterns you are experiencing and you can work to develop coping strategies to minimize any negative impact. Pregnancy Many women report that ADHD symptoms decrease during pregnancy, as this is when estrogen levels tend to be much higher. However, not every woman experiences a decrease in ADHD symptoms. In addition, doctors often advise women to stop taking their ADHD medication during pregnancy, which means pregnancy can be a challenging time as you are managing ADHD symptoms without medication. Postpartum After the baby is born, estrogen levels drop and ADHD symptoms return (or persist). Postpartum depression is something that can appear for new ADHD moms, particularly if depression was a condition that coexisted with ADHD before pregnancy.  The lack of sleep that comes with a new baby, as well as the stress while you create a new routine, can make ADHD symptoms worse. If you are breastfeeding, it is important to get advice from your doctor before you start taking  ADHD medication again. Breastfeeding, Medications, and Milk Supply Perimenopause and ADHD Perimenopause often begins when a woman is in her late 30s or early 40s. It is the transition phase where a woman moves out of her reproductive years and into menopause. During this time estrogen levels can fluctuate.    You may notice that ADHD symptoms appear to be getting worse. A change in ADHD medication dosage can be helpful. Also, speak with your doctor if you feel depressed or anxious as these conditions can also appear at this time. Menopause and ADHD Menopause typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, with the average age at approximately 51. With the onset of menopause, there is a significant  drop in estrogen levels for most women. However, many women say that once they reach menopause, they feel better than they did during perimenopause because their estrogen levels have stabilized. A Word From Verywell Throughout your life and your hormonal changes, be open with your doctor about your symptoms, so that they can get  a clear picture of what you are experiencing when they are prescribing medication.  Knowing that you will likely be making adjustments in treatment strategies at various stages of your life can also help you to be proactive in keeping your ADHD symptoms under better control. Creating Your Own Lesson Plan Calendar

It is easy to become overwhelmed when you begin planning units of study and individual lessons for a school year. Some teachers  start with their first unit and continue until the year ends with the attitude that if they didnt complete all the units then thats the way life is. Others try to plan their units in advance but run into events that cause them to lose time. A lesson plan calendar can help by giving a realistic overview of what they can expect in terms of instructional time.   Materials Needed: Blank CalendarSchool CalendarPencil Steps for Creating  a Lesson Plan Calendar Get a blank calendar and a pencil. You dont want to use pen because you will probably need to add and erase items over time.Mark off all vacation days on the calendar. I generally just draw a big X right through those days.Mark off any known testing dates. If you dont know the specific dates but you do know in which month testing will occur, write a note at the top of that month along with the approximate number of instructional days you will lose.Mark any scheduled events that will interfere with your class. Again if you are unsure of the specific dates but know the month, make a note at the top with the number of days you expect to lose. For example, if you know that Homecoming occurs in October and you will lose three days, then write three days at the top of the October page.Count up the number of days left, subtracting for days noted at the top of each month.Subtract one day each month for unexpected events. At this time, if you want, you can choose to subtract the day before va cation begins if this is typically a day that you lose. What you have left is the maximum number of instructional days you can expect for the year. You will be using this in the next step.Go through the Units of Study necessary to cover the standards for your subject and decide the number of days you think will be needed to cover each topic. You should use your text, supplementary materials, and your own ideas to come up with this. As you go through each unit, subtract the number of days required from the maximum number determined in step 7.Adjust your lessons for each unit until your result from Step 8 equals the maximum number of days.Pencil in the start and completion date for each unit on your calendar. If you notice that a unit would be split by a long vacation, then you will need to go back and readjust your units.Throughout the year, as soon as you find out a specific date or new events that will remove instructional time, go back to your calendar and readjust.

Sailing Me Free Essays

What do I really feel? Well, right now, I could say that I am sane. It just sounds funny to say that last word. For some time now, I have been holding a huge rock with my bare hands. We will write a custom essay sample on Sailing Me or any similar topic only for you Order Now The rock symbolizes my life as an adult human being. As an adult of early twenty’s of age, I began to struggle with life. I had worked for two independent companies already in a span of three years. But still, I have not yet found the contentment I am looking for. I mean, may be you would say that people usually have no contentment. But for me, I will continue to strive to gain recognition from my works and deeds so that it will feel rewarding and become a simple form of my contentment. That is why I am always making use of my abilities, skills, and knowledge the best way I can to show how flexible and competitive I can be in every job opportunity that comes my way. I think that is the smartest way to achieve one’s goal. Love life? I had two colorful love affairs already. I would like to share about the second. I and Gervin were actually friends. We were classmates in elementary. We lived in the same town until high school. I excelled during our elementary years, while he excelled academically in high school. After high school, we were not able to see each other except when there is a reunion held for our batch. Until one day, this year, when I forwarded messages to all the contact numbers of my friends I have in my phonebook, he was the only one who replied and asked how I am doing. It started like that. Everyday I receive messages from him. We converse through text messages, until it came to a point where he became romantic in his messages. Honestly, I liked how it feels. It was flattering. It made me fall for him after some time. For me, it was a cute, simple romance where we expressed our feelings to each other by sending text messages everyday. He was sweet to me. I was sweet to him, too. There were exchanges of I love yous and we understand each other. Although we were not actually seeing each other, I could feel his presence through his messages. And I felt like we were true lovers. The relationship became complicated when I learned that he has a girlfriend. I felt bad about it. Without further thinking, I messaged him immediately and said that I want to stop whatever it is that is happening between us. He did not make a reply. Until now there is no communication between the two of us. I wonder how he really felt about me and how he feels about me right now. What was his real intention to me? Was it just friendship, more than friendship, or just a flirting? If it’s just friendship, he actually hurt me because he is special to me. It was not clear to me what our relationship was. Finally, I am able to accept that I am human and it is normal to feel something special for somebody. It is better to let go of the feeling than to hide it. After heartaches and pains, it’s now time to enjoy life. I want to change my lifestyle, my career path, and everything about me. It’s time to be happy and to share my smiles to everyone especially to my family who most deserves it. But of course I need to earn money and to work hard for my living also. Life’s like that. III  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Developing Effective Study Skills Forming study skills for a distance learning environment Distance learning does not involve attendance at study centre and therefore one continues to learn at own speed. For those who need to fit their learning around existing commitments this can be the most suitable method for learning. Study skills for distance learning environment should be flexible and should be those which the participant can readily understand materials without the help of the tutor or lecturer. For distance learning one needs study skills that are dynamic and interactive (Melton, R. F. 2002). Using SQ3R and other study methods SQ3R is a reading and studying skill system. Survey: this involves gathering the information needed to focus and formulate your goals. It involves reading the title, the introduction and/or summary. Notice each bond have heading and subheading. Notice also graphic e.g. charts maps. Finally notice reading aids such as italics, bold face prints and chapter objective(s). Questions: Questioning helps to engage and concentrate. Question one section at the time, turn bold face heading into many questions as possible you think that their answers can come from that section. The better the question the better your comprehensiveness. It is true that when the mind actively searches for an answer to a question it becomes engaged in learning. Read: read to fill in the information surrounding your question structure. Read each section at a time with your questions at mind. Look for answers and check whether you need to create more questions. Recite: reciting what you have read will retain your mind to concentrate and learn as it reads. After each section, stop and check whether you are able to answer, questions from your memory, if you cannot answer question from the memory go back again as often as possible and don’t go on to the next section until you can recite. Review: After reading and reciting, reviewing is done by either drafting questions for what was learned or closing the notes to see what was learned by answering set questions from memory. Reviewing should be done regularly. This above is the simplest form defining the SQ3R system of study skill. Another study method is to try to relate what you are reading to your day to day experience. Try to talk what you are learning with your friends, parents and teachers. Consider teaching your fellow classmates. This may look like a big commitment which benefits others but it is true that we learn best when we have to teach others. When difficulties concepts are discussed with others always this provides details which can be used as ‘hooks’ to help you remember. The more time you spend concentrating on the subject the better you will remember. This referred to as active studying. Adapting learning style to Axia format. If you are in school you will want classes which are relevant, interesting and changeling. IV  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Setting and Achieving Goals Goal setting is an important procedure to achieving our dreams. Definition and Examples of Stasis in Classical Rhetoric

Definition and Examples of Stasis in Classical Rhetoric In classical rhetoric, stasis is the process of, first, identifying the central issues in a dispute, and next finding arguments by which to address those issues effectively. Plural: staseis. Also called stasis theory or the stasis system. Stasis is a basic resource of invention. The Greek rhetorician Hermagoras of Temnos identified four major types (or divisions) of stasis: Latin coniectura, conjecturing about the fact at issue, whether or not something had been done at a particular time by a particular person: e.g., Did X actually kill Y?Definitiva, whether an admitted action falls under the legal definition of a crime: e.g., Was the admitted killing of Y by X murder or homicide?Generalis or qualitas, the issue of the quality of the action, including its motivation and possible justification: e.g., Was the murder of Y by X in some way justified by the circumstances?Translatio, objection to the legal process or transference of jurisdiction to a different tribunal: e.g., Can this court try X for a crime when X has been given immunity from prosecution or claims the crime was committed in another city? See Examples and Observations below. Also see: ArgumentationDissoi LogoiExigenceInventionJudicial RhetoricMetastasisTopoi EtymologyFrom the Greek, stance. placing, position Examples and Observations Although he recognized the need to define the question at issue in a trial, Aristotle did not develop a theory to cover the various possibilities, nor did he use the term stasis. . . . The word literally means stand, standing, stance, describes the stance of a boxer toward an opponent, and perhaps was transferred from that context to the stand taken by a speaker toward an opponent. Quintilian (3.6.23) saw the influence of Aristotles dialectical categories of substance, quantity, relation, and quality on concepts of stasis, which in Latin is called constitutio or status.(George A. Kennedy, A New History of Classical Rhetoric. Princeton University. Press, 1994)Hermagoras was the most important contributor to stasis theory before the 2nd century AD and made stasis theory a much more important part of the rhetorical curriculum. However, only fragments of the works of Hermagoras have been preserved. Modern knowledge of the evolution of stasis theory is derived primarily from Rhetorica ad Herennium and Ciceros De Inventione.(Arthur R. Emmett, Hermogenes of Tarsus: Rhetorical Bridge From the Ancient World to the Modern. Rediscovering Rhetoric,  ed. by Justin T. Gleeson and Ruth C. A. Higgins. Federation Press, 2008) The Stasis SystemIn Book One of De Inventione, Cicero discusses a system for thinking through a judicial case, called the stasis (struggle or stopping point) system. An aspiring rhetorician could learn the skill by analyzing a case by dividing the debate into the likely issues of conflict, or stopping points. . . .Students studying a stasis system learned to think through cases by following the points at which disagreements were likely to arise. These points of stasis, or struggle, . . . divided a complex case into its component parts or questions. Arguments relevant to questions of fact, definition, and quality were rehearsed and thus integrated into the students pattern of thinking.(James A. Herrick, The History and Theory of Rhetoric. Allyn Bacon, 2008)The Stasis Doctrine: Three QuestionsThe stasis doctrine, a procedure for determining relevant issues, was a staple concept for the Roman rhetoricians. According to the simplest interpretation of this doctrine, three questions are i nvolved in the crux of a given case: (1) Did anything happen? a conjectural question answered by physical evidence; (2) What name should be applied to what happened? a question answered by precise definitions; (3) What sort of an action was it? a qualitative inquiry allowing the orator to specify mitigating circumstances.Additional material could be adduced by employing the topics.(Donovan J. Ochs, Ciceros Rhetorical Theory. A Synoptic History of Classical Rhetoric, 3rd ed., by James J. Murphy and Richard A. Katula. Lawrence Erlbaum, 2003) The Stasis Doctrine Applied to Yogi BearTo return for a moment to Jellystone Park, conjectural stasis would have us ask whether Yogi Bear was responsible for the disappearance of the picnic basket, definitional stasis whether he grabbed it and snaffled the contents, qualitative stasis whether the bylaws of Jellystone Park prohibit the theft of picnic baskets, and translative status whether the alleged theft should be tried in a human court or whether this thieving wild animal should be summarily shot by a park ranger.(Sam Leith, Words Like Loaded Pistols: Rhetoric From Aristotle to Obama. Basic Books, 2012)Stasis theory has to this day exercised important influences on the development of Western law, even if the level of explicit attention to the doctrines of stasis in the rhetorical as well as the legal literature has fluctuated greatly.(Hanns Hohmann, Stasis, in Encyclopedia of Rhetoric, ed. Thomas O. Sloane. Oxford University Press, 2001) Pronunciation: STAY-sis Also Known As: stasis theory, issues, status, constitutio Alternate Spellings: staseis

Halloween Word Play You Should Be Frightened...

Halloween Word Play You Should Be Frightened... Halloween always makes me think of my Yale College days and the clever costumes my classmates would devise. My favorite was a couple who dressed as â€Å"Paradise Lost.† They each donned a boxy six-sided die and walked around holding a map. Yes, they were a â€Å"pair of dice, lost.† Over the weekend, at one of the workshops I take at Wright, I overheard a conversation between two women in the ladies room about their plans for the evening. One of them mentioned that she was going to a jack-o-lantern making party; the other lamented that she would probably not be able to attend a family event that night because of other commitments, but that she would try to carve out the time to go. â€Å"Looks like both of you will be carving something!† I observed. Wordplay is a big part of my life. I’m often the person to notice puns when they weren’t intended. Halloween is not required. In a conversation with one of my subcontracting resume writers, we were discussing my preference for keeping the word â€Å"I† out of resumes. Without realizing what he was saying, he blurted, â€Å"I’ll keep an eye out for that!† â€Å"No pun intended,† I responded. (Indeed, I was recommending that he keep an â€Å"I† out!) While any time is a great time for a good pun or wordplay in my book, Halloween provides the perfect opportunity to experiment with visual representation. For instance, what costume would you wear if you were dressing as a â€Å"Cereal Killer†? How about â€Å"Iron Maiden†? A â€Å"French Kiss†? A â€Å"Black-Eyed P†? â€Å"Blessing in Disguise†? Or perhaps you’d like to be a â€Å"Dust Bunny† or a â€Å"Chocolate Moose†? See the Deviled Egg to the right. The possibilities are endless and although some Halloween parties have already happened, perhaps I’ve given you sufficient lead time to devise a creative costume if you’ve been wanting to break out of the standard witch or ghost costume this year. I personally am dressing this year as â€Å"Facing Your Fears.† I will dress in black and most likely carry around a furry black and orange spider. I will carry a rearview mirror on which anyone willing to participate can write one of their fears in orange lipstick. They will then be able to face their fears in the rearview mirror. What will your costume be this Halloween? Do you have ideas of ways to dress for any of the suggestions above? What’s your favorite Halloween pun? Please share! Dream Vacation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Dream Vacation - Essay Example Hawaii is a place that millions of people around the world dream of visiting but we’re actually going to do it. For the first time in a long time, we have the means and the willpower (I hope!) to take a much needed vacation abroad. It’s winter at home and the sunny shores of Waikiki are within our reach. Why Hawaii, you ask? As the eastern-most portion of the United States, Hawaii has also had a mythical hold over my imagination since I was young. Hawaii is a series of islands which have a distinct history, culture and language from the rest of the United States. Hawaiians are also very proud of their way of life and have taken many steps to preserve their unique and fascinating culture. Think of it, we can go spend time on Waikiki beach or go snorkeling at Hanauma Bay, just on the other side of the Diamond Head volcano. We’ll also go hiking up Diamond Head and take in a luau or two while we are there. Did you know that Barack Obama was born in Honolulu? Yes, the first African-American President in the history of the United States was born just off the coast of Waikiki beach and spent his formative early years growing up on the tropical island of Hawaii. We can also visit the Pearl Harbor memorial to the east of the island or visit the Palace of King Kahemahema back when Hawa ii was a kingdom and it was governed by monarchs for centuries. Hawaii has so much history, so much to see, read and learn about. We really all deserve a vacation and now is the time to get away from the winter, kick back and have a pina colda on the beach. Who needs snow when we could be on the beach? (Tabrah, 1984). The sunny tropical conditions of Waikiki are calling us. Let’s go away for the winter. Instead of permanent snow and walking through slush every morning to get to work, lets go spend a few weeks on the beach. The time has come to take our long overdue holiday before the kids leave

Formal Analysis of Hawthornes Young Goodman Brown Essay -- Young Good

A Formal Analysis of Young Goodman Brown Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Young Goodman Brown" is an interesting short story that creatively tells two stories at once. One story is of a man leaving his wife one night and venturing into the woods, and the other is of his struggle with his religious faith. In reading this story, it is beneficial for one to look at it from a formalistic point of view. Formal analysis makes the reader look closely at how a story is written to see its deeper meaning. Hawthorne takes advantage of careful word choice and images to create a picture of one man's journey that can easily parallel our own. The word choice of every story plays a key role in understanding the story. In "Young Goodman Brown" almost every word contains a special meaning. The title Hawthorne gives to his story is simple and informative; it tells the reader right away that the focus of the story is a young man. The use of the name Brown is also significant. The name is universal so that it can relate to anyone (Rhetoric 102L class discussion, January 15 2001). The fact that his title is Goodman, instead of Mister, suggests that it took place around colonial times. The name of his wife, Faith, is a clue held in the opening paragraph of the text that gives the reader and idea of what the story is about. Though out the story Goodman Brown says phrases such as, "Faith kept me back a while," which on the surface looks as though he is talking about his wife; however just below the surface he is talking about how his faith in God that kept him from heading towards the Devil. (HCAL 376). Caref... ...odman Brown goes is also significant. The Puritans believed that the witches and even the Devil lived in the woods, which can be a hint foreshadowing what Goodman Brown will find in the forest. "Young Goodman Brown" is full of carefully selected words. Each place, item, and name described is significant to the story. The word, faith, has two functions, a name and a belief. Images such as the pink ribbons and the staff are useful for more than their everyday function. Hawthorne knows the power of words and chooses wisely, thus creating a story that, when looked at beyond the surface, has a completely new meaning. - (Guerin, Wilfered; Labor, Earle; Morgan, Lee; Reesman, Jeanne; Willingham, John, A Handbook of Critical Appraches to Literature, New York, Oxford University Press, 1999.)

Exam Paper for Distribution Managment

Patricia Mae D. Perez Distribution Management 5. Major concepts related with supply chain A supply chain is a network of facilities and distribution options that performs the functions of procurement of materials, transformation of these materials into intermediate and finished products, and the distribution of these finished products to customers. Supply chains exist in both service and manufacturing organizations, although the difficulty of the chain may vary greatly from industry to industry and firm to firm. It is a dynamic system that evolves over time. Indeed, not only do customer demand and supplier capabilities change over time, but supply chain relationships also evolve overtime. For example, as the customer’s power increases, there is increased pressure placed on manufacturers and suppliers to produce an enormous variety of high- quality products and to produced customized products. Characteristic of supply chain management There are numbers of characteristics of supply chain. The most important is that the firms understand that their future depends to al arge level on the success of channel and they involved themselves as part of the channel. Relationships are viewed as long term, and the corporate cultures, philosophies, and missions are similar. There is joint planning of products, locations, and quantities of inventory to be kept in the system. Great deal information sharing between firms in order to coordinate the efficient flow of goods. The modern computing and communication technology, such as electronic data interchange, is used to rapidly provide information within the channel as needed. Cost advantages are exploited wherever possible. Other characteristics are: Competing goals and objectives Cost reduction and on time delivery of goods Dynamic operating conditions Emphasis on responsiveness to design changes Process of supply chain management The planning process needs to account for demand and cost parameters varying over time due to the impact of seasonal fluctuations, trends, advertising and promotions, competitor’s pricing and strategies. The process is made up of the flow of materials, flow of information and services and monitoring the control of this flow, that includes raw materials procurement, production, inventory management, processing of orders, warehousing, transportation and distribution. Key concepts related to customer service and performance measurements in the SCM function Four methods of developing customer strategy Stay in touch Show your customers how you valu e your business through keeping in touch with them by sending them updates about your company. Use newsletters, individual letters or emails to deliver new things and products and promotions of the company. You can also send a thank you note if a customer made a major purchase and ask them for some feedbacks and suggestions. With all of this information you gathered from your customer, you can come up with solutions to the problems and meet their needs. Empower your staff There are some cases where there is no policy and the policy need to be flexed. To do this you have to empower certain people to make decisions, bend the rules and use wise judgments. Have them documented these special cases by providing a pad paper of forms and let them input some information to the computer. You can also designate one person per shift as chief problem-solver. Manage customer relationships Once you have gathered information about your customer, you can identify them and give them rewards. You can offer the frequent customers discounts for their next purchase and make a follow up call to those customers who need repair work. Use the information gathered about the customer to make customer service a science. If you give them quality service and you satisfy them, they will continue going back to you. Make great service a priority For you to serve your customers excellently, you have to train your staff. Because they are the one who faces and interact your customers not you. So train them very well. Always put in mind that customers must always comes first. Start with small things like greeting them politely and staff must courteously greet anyone who enters the shop. Relationship between customer service and inventory investment Improving the inventory is critical to customer service. despite of whether your company deals b2b or b2C, insufficient inventory management process will affect customer service and customer satisfaction levels. A successful inventory management anticipates analyses, plans for, and delivers inventory standards which do not mix into customer service disaster. Not only focus on the correct inventory supply levels, but also the factors in the expertise of the personell who deal with inventory process. The relationship with the suppliers and distributors, as well as those who perform the maintenance functions, and the communication processes used to express the current and prospective requirements between both the suppliers, distributors and end users. Impact of inventory management on operations Major operational benefits of lean manufacturing systems Lean manufacturing concepts were developed over the last five to six decades, primarily in Japan, particularly for the Toyota production sys tem. These concepts met various tests for many many years and passed the test of time very easily. It is defined as an approach to help reduce waste and eliminate waste in the assemble line at the time of manufacturing the products. By doing it right, it helps in reducing the cost and continuous improvement. It eliminates waste by means of identifying non-value added activities which leads to poor product quality in the production process that will not be able to meet the customer’s expectations in the market place Benefits of Lean Manufacturing are: Improvement in the delivery performance Less/ reduced lead times Increased in sales revenue Less operating costs and increased profits Improved customer satisfaction and supplier relations Reduction in inventory An increased in the employee moral and retention Better quality Reduced warehouse space Creation of additional working capital for new projects Improvement in supplier relationship In lean manufacturing, the customers can be able to get what they want. With this, they get satisfied and it brings benefits for the employees as they are the very important in the manufacturing line. The system focuses on the improvement of the manufacturing line of the organizations. The companies have been able to eliminate and reduce the redundant and looping processes from the organizations. It has made things very easy for the organizations. The tools used in the lean manufacturing can help the organization to find out different problems in the production. Organizational and process considerations involved in implementing lean systems There are other implementing lean manufacturing tools that an organization can use to get the improvements they want. There is the Value Streaming and Process Mapping. These two can effectively eliminate waste and in implementing lean manufacturing, they can streamline work processes. Value streaming is use to identify opportunities while process mapping use to identify specific waste and improvements. Considerations: Strategic Flexibility unexpected problems arise to change any plan. Unforeseen opportunities also arise. This is where stragegits excel. The only sure thing is change. Tasks in the future are lesslikely to change than months away. The long term plan sets direction and budgets. The short term tracks specific tasls and accomplishments. Concentration â€Å"concentrate the maximum force in the smallest area† Beachhead Stragtegies focuses on small area or a product. All the essentials elements for a self reinforcing, sustainable system are deployed locally. This can happen quickly. The small area become the beachhead of lean manufacturing The Kaizen Blitz is a focused implementation that suits a beachhead strategy. It has a strong appeal. It is fast, dramatic and effective. Role of SCM and Logistics in the economy and the organization Total Quality Management is an approach that seeks to improve quality and performance which will meet or exceed customer expectations. This can be achieved by integrating all quality-related functions and processes throughout the company. It looks at the overall quality measures used by a company including managing quality design and development, quality control and maintenance, quality improvement, and quality assurance. It takes into account all quality measures taken at all levels and involving all company employees. For this to work, everyone in the organization has to get involved. This theory is to work towards using the best processes to offer the best possible products and to produce best customer satisfaction. Supply Chain Management in the management of distribution across organizations. All the members of the channel, from suppliers to end users, coordinate their business activities and process to minimize their total costs and maximize their effectiveness in the market. The goal is to achieve the coordination and continuity of a vertically integrated channel without centralized ownership of the entires comprising the channel. The firms form along term partenrshipin order to improve service to the ned consumer, reduce channel costs, and create competitive advantage. It has also developed other terms like Just In Time supply chain management. That is to say that a company tries to stock nothing ahead of time and its suppliers will provide what is needed just in time for production or shipping. There are a lot of variables for a good supply chain management like the trustworthiness of suppliers, reliability of shippers, and planning contingencies for worse case scenarios. Still, business are still trying to figure how much they need to inventory and how much can be ordered as needed. There are some key characteristics of SCM. The most important of all is that the firms involved see themselves as part of the channel and understand that their future depends to large extent on the success of the whole channel. The relationships are viewed as long term, and the corporate cultures, philosophies, and missions are similar. Just in time is a philosophy of manufacturing based on planned elimination of all waste and on continuous improvement of productivity. It also has been described as an approach with the objective of producing the right part in the right place at the right time. Waste results from any activity that adds cost without adding value, such as the unnecessary moving of materials, the accumulation of excess inventory, or the use of faulty production methods that create products requiring subsequent rework. JIT should improve profits and return on investment by reducing inventory levels, reducing variability, improving product quality, reducing production and delivery lead times, and reducing other costs. In a JIT system, underutilized (excess) capacity is used instead of buffer inventories to hedge against problems that may arise. JIT applies primarily to repetitive manufacturing processes in which the same products and components are produced over and over again. The general idea is to establish flow processes by linking work centers so that there is an even, balanced flow of materials throughout the entire production process, similar to that found in an assembly line. To accomplish this, an attempt is made to reach the goals of driving all inventory buffers toward zero and achieving the ideal lot size of one unit. Organizational issues related to purchasing Purchasing is wherein all significant purchases are monitored for the right authorization of the right item, at the right price, quality and quantity, from the right supplier and terms. Objectives of purchasing 1. Procure the necessary quality and quantity of goods or services in an efficient, timely and cost effective manner, while maintaining the controls necessary for a corporation. . Encourage an open competitive bidding process practicable for the acquisition of goods and services and equitable treatment of all vendors. 3. Ensure the maximum value of an acquisition is obtained by determining the total cost of performing the intended function over the lifetime of the task. This may include, but not be limited to, acquisition cost, installation, disposal value and cot, training cost, maintenance cost, quality of performance and environmental impact. 4. Procure goods and services with due regard to the preservation of the atural environment and to encourage the use of environmentally friendly products and services. Material management Materials management is part of logistics and refers to the location and movement of the physical items or products. There are three main processes associated with materials management: spare parts, quality control, and inventory management. Materials management is important in large manufacturing and distribution environments, where there are multiple parts, locations, and significant money invested in these items. The first process in materials management is related to spare parts. A detailed business process is required to determine the order point for the spare parts, identify the ideal quantity to order, process receipt of the parts, and then make sure they are in the correct place. Spare parts are integral to the continuing operation of production lines and related equipment. Poor management of this process can cause downtime and loss of production. Quality control is a large part of materials management. The creation of material standards, inspections, and returns process is a primary responsibility of the materials management group. All parts and materials must be tested to ensure that a specific level of quality is met. This is typically completed before a purchase order is issued to a supplier, to ensure that the supplier has met the conditions of their contract. It is used to ensure that the company delivers quality products to their customers, and to minimize waste in the production Sources: http://www. wdo. ca/files/domain4116/Final%20WDO%20Purchasing%20Policy%20for%20posting. pdf http://www. businessdictionary. com/definition/purchasing. html http://www. wisegeek. com/what-is-materials-management. htm

The Common Core State Standards - 937 Words

Forty-two states, along with the District of Columbia have adopted Common Core State Standards. These standards were created to focus only on English and Mathematics. An effect of states adopting Common Core State Standards is that all other subjects taught in school were emphasized less. History, Science, and many other subjects are no longer stressed; therefore students are limited to being proficient in only two subjects. The Common Core deprives students’ ability to be skilled in multiple areas. These standards do not provide a slight â€Å"break† from the challenging and fast paced teaching of English and Mathematics. In addition to limiting education to English and Mathematics, Jill Bowden explains that the Common Core is affecting kindergarteners by taking them â€Å"away from materials that encourage playful learning† (36). Simple, beneficial learning materials typically used in kindergarten classrooms are being replaced with workbooks and textbooks. Thes e standards are not benefiting education; instead they suppress enjoyable learning that one could gain from free learning. All grades are affected, but especially kindergarteners. These kindergarteners are too young for authoritative standards, and should be learning concepts appropriate for a child the age of five.
